Yeehaw!

Brooke Balwin had Gabrielle Ellison on her show yesterday on CNN. She’s the Texas bar owner who is defying shutdown orders and is suing the governor. She says she is doing this for 2 reasons.

1. People’s rights are being “trampled on” because they are being made to wear masks. She believes it is a matter of choice and the government has no business restricting people’s freedom of choice. She will not enforce the mask rule and is planning a “Family Friendly” event this weekend which will include children, who, by the way, are not immune to this virus.

What about my rights Gabrielle? What about the rights of anyone in the “vulnerable” category for catching COVID-19? Don’t we have the inalienable rights of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”? Your careless and clueless behavior fosters an environment that is inhospitable for others to enjoy their freedoms. The more that people get this virus the more it spreads. Mask wearing, once again for the thousandth time, is more to prevent people from spreading the virus than catching it. The environment that you and others are 
promoting only feeds the virus. You are prolonging this pandemic. You could help protect our rights if you wanted to, but your interests lie elsewhere. So don’t give me this nonsense about your rights. Rights are not rights unless everybody has them!

2. You say that you cannot afford to shut down because you have bills to pay and employees to take care of.

Penny wise and pound foolish, or just plain foolish? Just what kind of businesswoman are you?

Shutting down until the pandemic is under control at current levels would take much less time than having to shut down when the case rate is sky high. How long do you think you’d have to be closed then? Give the employees a few more weeks of paychecks only to have to lay them off for months. Not to mention the added bonus of dead and hospitalized relatives and friends that these employees would have to deal with because of your pigheaded attitude.

You want to sue the Governor? Let me get this straight; you, as a bar owner, can be held liable if one of your patrons gets so drunk from you serving them that they then drive and kill or injure someone, but you are not responsible for knowingly spreading a deadly virus that you could have prevented by simply making your customers wear face masks? Get ready for the lawsuits lady. Everything is not OK at the OK Corral!
